A Spectacular and Scenic Adventure
A ride to adore, the Lake Dunstan Trail is a splendid journey through a landscape distinctly Central Otago.
Lake Dunstan, Central Otago
Created by man, not God, Lake Dunstan was a result of the Governments 'Think Big' Project of the 1980's to provide a reservoir for hydro electricity generation. Today the townships of Cromwell and Clyde provide gateways into this adventure playground. The Lake Dunstan Trail showcases this amazing and unique landscape.
Lake Dunstan Trail
After extensive planning and a $7 million investment the Lake Dunstan Trail opened in 2021 to an ecstatic reception. 200,000 riders later, the trail truly earns it's 'Great Ride" status. Showcasing creative engineering feats with clip on bridges, the ride presents challenging climbs where sections require confidence and skill. The trail is remote requiring the rider to be fully independent and self sufficient. This includes carrying water and food, warm clothing and have the experience to repair your bicycle if required. No rider assistance, or vehicle access is available through the central section.
